Jason Karolak is an abstract artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Born in Rochester, MI in 1974, he received a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in 1997 and an MFA from School of Art Institute of Chicago in 2006.
Karolak’s work has been featured in many shows including several solo exhibitions around the country in galleries such as Rowland Contemporary (Chicago, IL), Massimo Audiello (New York, NY), Dolphin (Kansas City, MO), McKenzie Fine Art (New York, NY), and Robischon Gallery (Denver, CO). He has also participated as a Visiting Artist at a number of colleges and universities and has held several academic positions as an instructor and lecturer since 2007.
In 2013, he completed a project at Oehme Graphics, creating a diverse body of 21 editions prints. Dozens of vellum drawings were edited down to a series of 12 small, black and white, solar plate etchings which are available as a suite entitled Alembic, with a short text by Emerson. Embracing a larger scale, he also created two 27 3/4″ x 23″ prints from a complex multi-plate process. The bright color and thick texture of Jason’s small paintings translated beautifully into additional 20 1/2″ x 18″ carborundum aquatint prints. And wrapping up the project are two playful and colorful 14 3/4″ x 13 1/2″ solar prints and a simple black and white solar plate addition to our now bi-annual Stairway to Heaven group portfolio.
