PAULA ZINSMEISTER

As an artist, I have always been attracted to the linear quality found in natural forms. In my series, Field’s Edge, I wanted to capture the feel of tall linear grasses common in outdoor fields.
I worked on this series in the state of Colorado, far from my home in Ohio. It was early spring when the grasses and outdoor plants were spent from the long, cold Colorado winter. I used these dried grasses and plants to create positive and negative images in my work. By printing multiple layers with watercolor and inked intaglio plates, I was able to depict my vision of fields in warmer months.

The use of the spent grasses and plants to create new life was an
unexpected inspirational experience for me as an artist.
