Expand your creative skills by making art in our nurturing environment! Weekend Workshops are a new series of two-day intensives that will focus on a printmaking technique and meet every few months at Oehme Graphics’ state of the art printmaking facility. The camaraderie of other artists and insight of Master Printer, Sue Oehme, will help you advance your ideas and artwork. Each workshop will feature a demonstration by Sue, highlighting a topic ranging from plexiglass drypoints, copper etchings, collograph plates, to basic printing skills. The two-day intensive structure allows for a deeper dive into the featured printmaking technique and allows students to work independently as well as receive personal feedback on their projects. Classes run Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
Open to artists of all ages and backgrounds. Studio supervision and basic materials for each topic are provided. Space is limited to six artists at a time. Workshops include a demo by the instructor, presentation of pieces from the Oehme Graphics collection as examples, one plate, paper, other materials, and time printing on our two presses. Additional materials are available for purchase, or feel free to bring your own. Light snacks and beverages will be provided, but we recommend that you pack a lunch. Advanced artists are free to work independently with Sue’s guidance.
2024 SCHEDULE
April 20-21 – Watercolor and Drypoint
Combine a watercolor image painted on vellum or another surface with a drypoint line drawing on a plexiglass plate, inked with etching inks to create a textured and linear print with color.
June 15-16 – Copper Etching and Aquatint
Learn the basics of etching on copper: On day 1, make linear images with hard ground and soft ground (one looks like a pen drawing and the other resembles pencil). On day 2, learn to create areas of tone on a copper plate with aquatint and step-etching.
August 17-18 – Collagraph
Learn to make collograph plates from matboard and create an image by painting with acrylic medium and collaging textured materials onto the plate. Plates are made on the first day, then printed in colors with different techniques on the second day.
October 19-20 – Oil Monotype with Stencils
Use oil-based inks rolled onto cut vellum stencils and a plexiglass plate to create a layered monotype. This class will also focus on color properties of inks/transparencies and special ink mixing.
Weekend workshop cost is $175. 50% of cost due upon enrollment.
There will be no refunds for cancellations less than 7 days prior to the class. Participants must register by the Wednesday before the workshop. If there are less than 3 participants signed up for a workshop, we reserve the right to cancel with a full refund given to all.
Please note that masks are no longer required in the studio, but please feel free to wear one if you desire.
