Dorothea Van Camp received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1984 and her MFA from the University of Cincinnati in 1985. She has been an artist in residence at the Norristown Arts Building in Pennsylvania, the International School of Art in Vibio, Italy, and currently lives and works in Boston.

Dorothea works in painting, printmaking, and combined mixed media. She employs a variety of methods to make her softly layered compositions, including vector-based computer drawings, silkscreen, and lithographic transfer. Dorothea is a member of one of the most prominent artist collectives in the Boston area, The Fort Point Arts Community. She is represented by 555 Gallery, Nicole Longnecker Gallery, and 13 Forest Gallery. Dorothea has exhibited her work at the Fitchburg Art Museum, The Print Center, Philadelphia, FPAC Gallery in Boston, and numerous other galleries across the nation. Dorothea’s work has been reviewed in The Boston Globe and Artscope, and is held in the collections of the US State Department: the US Department of State Art Bank, Wellesley College, Bank of America, and the Federal Reserve Bank.

Dorothea first came to Oehme Graphics in August 2015 to participate in a workshop with master printer Susan Oehme. Dorthea returned to Oehme Graphics in March of 2016, for her first collaborative project, creating a total of 44 prints, ranging from 15 1/4” x 13” to 28 1/2” x 23 1/4”.

Her monoprints are created from dozens of matrices made using screenprinted watercolor vellums and oil based solar plate etchings. The ephemeral prints are inspired by organinc patterns, which Dorothea manipulates through both digital drawings and gestural mark making, creating a delicate balance between chaos and control.
